DIY Skull Floral Arrangement
With September 1st just around the corner, it’s almost time for me to start putting up my Halloween decor! (If it were up to me, I'd start even earlier.) Halloween is my absolute favorite time of year—I love scary movies, creepy decorations, and everything strange and spooky. Honestly, I have way more Halloween decor than Christmas decorations.
A few years ago, I created a skeleton centerpiece that got so much positive feedback from family and friends that I decided to put together a quick tutorial for you all. It’s a super easy DIY project that doesn’t need any special tools.
I found this skeleton skull at TJ Max for $7.99 (what a steal).
I’ve listed some other ones below that would be great options and work well: (Click on the images below)
After making this great find, I visited my local Hobby Lobby and JoAnn Fabrics to pick up some floral stems. Here are the ones I chose for this project:
You will also need a floral craft foam ball which is a structure that is great for poking, cutting, shaping and arranging artificial flowers. I used a drywall saw to cut it to fit my hole, but I’m sure you could use any type of serrated knife.
Next, I used wire cutter pliers to trim my stems into smaller pieces, varying the lengths to create a fuller and more dynamic arrangement.
After cutting your foam ball to the desired size, begin inserting the stems by poking holes into the foam. I found that a wooden kebab skewer worked best for this task—its size was just right for creating pilot holes, unlike a pen, which made the holes too large.
This step can be time-consuming and requires a bit of finesse, but with some patience and effort, your arrangement will start to take shape beautifully. :)
